Grills & Home Values

Backyard grills across America are very hot items during July, officially designated as National Grilling Month.

According to surveys conducted by the Hearth, Patio, & Barbecue Association, hamburger is the most popular food (85%) for outdoor cookouts at home, followed by steak (80%), hot dogs (79%), chicken (73%), sausage (55%), and ribs (53%).

You can cook nearly anything to delicious perfection on backyard grills, including fish, vegetables, and even fruit. That’s one of many great things about them. Another is that if you have a hankering to splurge on a fancy built-in outdoor grill for your home, smart money says it’s a worthwhile investment.

Backyard cooking has become so popular that a good built-in grill is practically guaranteed to have a positive effect on your home’s resale value. When accompanied by a basic outdoor kitchen, it may well pay for itself and then some: the National Association of Home Builders says a home’s purchase price can increase up to 130% of the cost of the kitchen’s materials and installation.

A minimal set-up should include a grill and plenty of counter space for preparing and serving food. While a charcoal-fired grill will suffice, gas is better because it is less expensive, easier to control, cooks faster, and much more convenient. Families quickly discover all kind of advantages to outdoor kitchens they’d never anticipated. For example, all the heat generated in preparing meals stays outside the house and saving on interior cooling costs. If you already have a grill enjoy this month dedicated to grilling and if you were on the fence about getting or building one –don’t wait until next July!
